Following on from the floating vegetated islands developed under the UROS program, S.M.A.D.E.S.E.P., PORALU Marine and ECOCEAN have joined forces to develop a new ecological pontoon module incorporating aquatic plants. These habitats provide natural spawning grounds and nurseries for aquatic populations on lakes with high tidal ranges.
The first module was installed in October 2024, with support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). It will be used in conjunction with the fish farm's future floating equipment, providing submerged aquatic plants and functional habitats for Serre-Ponçon's aquatic fauna.
This innovative LEADER program will help meet the environmental challenges of artificial lakes, by providing fish populations with nursery and spawning areas that are generally absent on the banks of the reservoir.
