Navigation conditions

Boating, sports and touristic activities on the reservoir of Serre-Ponçon and the pond of Embrun are regulated by the decree of 9 October 2014. This decree is the result of the dialogue between the services of the State, the SMADESEP and the representatives of the professionals and users of the reservoir. It defines the general terms of use (Article 3-5), the distribution of water activities (Article 6 and 7), as well as the specific requirements of some of these activities (Article 8 and 9).

General advice of order:

  • The Lake of Serre-Ponçon is an artificial reservoir subject to fluctuations of level changing its initial aspect; navigators, watch out for unreported funds which may appear depending on the water level, swimmers, hikers, fishermen, attention to slippery banks and uncertain and muddy funds.
  •  Mountain lake: storms can be sudden and violent.
  • Do not overestimate your strength depending on your activity and weather conditions. Navigating can’t be improvised; a minimum of training is required.
  • Respect the maximum number of passenger on boats, check your safety equipment and the condition of your boat before sailing.
  • Wear your lifejacket on dinghies and small boats, whatever the weather. For windsurfing, wearing a lifejacket or wetsuit is compulsory. For Kite surfing, practitioners must be equipped with helmet, wetsuit and a buoyancy vest.
  • The underwater diving is permitted under certain conditions in the Bay des Lionnets.
  • Keep the environment clean, take back your waste, do not degrade the banks respect the waterside properties.
